Why a Monolithic Dome?

We get asked that question a lot and our answer is: R 60. We wanted to build an energy efficient home and a Monolithic Dome had the highest R value of all the energy efficient homes we looked at. For those of you that are not familiar with R value, the higher the R value, the greater the insulation. A typical 2x4 constructed house has an R value of 12. A 2x6 constructed house has an R value of 20. A straw bale house has an R value of 55, and a Monolithic Dome has an R value of 60.
